  • Taste of Chelsea

    The 4th Annual "Taste of Chelsea" returns to Chelsea St. Mary on Saturday, October 4th and will begin at 5:30pm, following 4:30pm Mass. This community event held in the parish hall, features food from popular restaurants in the Chelsea area that may be sampled by guests for the price of admission. So far, there are commitments from 10 restaurants, (including the Common Grill), along with 1 bakery, 1 caterer, 2 retailers, the Dexter Cider Mill, and the Chelsea Ale House. This event is a fundraiser to support the operations of St. Louis Center, which provides residential care for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Tickets are $45 each, and can be purchased at St. Louis Center, St. Mary, Village Motor Sales, and the Chelsea Chamber of Commerce. Call St. Louis Center at 734-475-8430 for more information.

    The Ladies of St. Mary will hold their next membership meeting on Monday, October 6, with social time starting at 6:30pm. Dr. Bill Simpson, a local health and wellness expert specialized in NeuroStructural Correction at Simpson Family Chiropractic in Dexter, has been invited to present "Eating Your Way to a Healthier You" at 6:45pm. He will be discussing what to look for, what to avoid, alternate healthy choices and also giving tips to creating a healthier you". The business meeting begins at 7:15pm. All ladies of the parish are cordially invited to attend. We would be pleased to have you join us. Prior to the October 6 & November 3 membership meetings, beginning at 6pm, the Spiritual Growth & Development group will hold an Intercessory Rosary for the intention of “receiving an increased outpouring of the Holy Spirit for the individual transformation of hearts and coming into the fullness of union with God for self and loved ones”. Please enter through the St. Mary hall doors.

    A Flu Shot Clinic is scheduled for Sunday, October 26th from 9am until Noon for those 9 years and older (ages 9-18 must have parent/guardian with them). The cost is covered by many insurances (please bring your insurance card). If your insurance does not cover, the cost is $33.00. No appointment necessary and nurses from University of Michigan Health System will be administering the vaccines in the Knights of Columbus room.

    Theology on Tap: “The Catholic Church & Science: It’s Not What You Think”? On Tuesday, October 28, St. Mary will host a Theology on Tap event at the Chelsea Grill from 7-8:30pm. Our presenter for the evening is Cameron Gibelyou. Cameron Gibelyou holds a PhD in astrophysics from the University of Michigan and currently serves as the Coordinator of Teaching, Programming, and Innovation in the UM College of Literature, Science, and the Arts. He teaches multidisciplinary/"big-idea" courses with titles including “Zoom: A History of Everything,” “Predicting the
    Future,” “Skills for College, Career, and Beyond,” and “Tours of the Past.” Previously, he has worked as an instructor or teaching assistant in the UM Departments of Physics, Astronomy, Psychology, History, and English. He has also served as an astronomy instructor for high-school and junior-high students in academic summer camps at Michigan and Johns Hopkins. He has taught Big History (the history of the universe, Earth, life, and humanity) to both high-school and college students, and is the science adviser for the Big History Project, a Bill Gates-sponsored initiative to create a high-school course in Big History. He is also writing a book about Big History with one of his colleagues at Michigan.  Cameron is an active member at St. Thomas the Apostle in Ann Arbor.  Cameron promises not to talk like a rocket scientist!
