I was born and raised in San Diego, where I met Joy, who became my high school sweetheart. We married in 1966, and we have nine children. I have worked in sales, manufacturing control, purchasing and computer systems design and implementation, and Joy earned her RN. After we moved to Michigan in 1984, she worked in pediatric intensive care at the University of Michigan. We spent a while away from the Church, but God had other plans for us. I “accidentally” got involved in the Parish CCD program. Partnering with Sally Pobojewski, we taught middle schoolers for several years. Then, in a period of two weeks, two people said that they thought that I should look into the diaconate. Deacon Dick Shaneyfelt said that my timing was excellent because a new group of men was being assembled to begin the diaconal education and formation process. So, here I am today, 20 years and then some later, a worked example of God’s grace – a work still in progress. Relying on God’s continuing grace and hearing the occasional divine “OY VEY,” I serve here at St. Mary as one of your deacons. Who could ask for anything more?
